IT is not often that a school can boast a father and son combination of sporting prowess.
But Mackie Academy has just such a pair in Sandy and Robert Lindsay of Rickarton.
Father Sandy is a well-known racing cyclist, secretary/treasurer and general factotum of Deeside Thistle Road Club.
It is the biggest cycle club in Scotland and Sandy
has been its champion for 15 successive years.
Robert was also a keen cyclist in his younger years, but when he started at Mackie he took up running.
He is a member of Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club and this year became its cross-country champion at junior boy level.
On the flat, he holds the club record for 1,500 meters.

STONEHAVEN Town Council are to hold a special meeting to discuss repairs and preventative measures at the beach.
At Tuesday evening's meeting, Councillor Charles Leiper spoke on a motion of which he had given notice the pervious month, and said: "As you will perhaps recollect in my address to the electors of Stonehaven, I promised that I would put forward a motion in this Chamber, for the provision, on a long-term basis, of a new promenade.
"I have waited somewhat impatiently for some months now for information of a revised estimate for this project from our engineers.
"Since this information does not seem to be forthcoming, we are at present unable to ask the Scottish Office what they would be prepared to contribute towards the cost of the scheme."
In an effort to realise part of the funds required, he moved for councillors to approve four measures to raise money.
Hon. Treasurer W.D. Gall said that in his opinion the motion warranted a special meeting, to which councillors agreed.

IT is satisfactory to observe that building seems to be on the boom just now.
It is said that every feu in Dunnottar Avenue has been taken up both on the north and south sides.
In fact, four houses have been sold which are not yet erected.
This is very pleasing news for the building trade and should an arrangement be come to between Mr Smith and the Harbour Board for getting stone from the harbour, workmen may look forward to a busy summer.

Councillor Beeton's motion at the Town Council to collect information as to sunshine and temperature is a move in the right direction provided money can be got to advertise it.
Glasgow and the west of Scotland are not so ignorant regarding the meteorological condition of Stonehaven as Mr Beeton would lead us to suppose.
He may not know and apparently the other councillors did not know, that during the months of July, August and September of last year the 'Glasgow Herald' published daily reports from Stonehaven as to the weather conditions prevailing, and they may do the same this summer, so that all the committee would have to do would be to 'boom' June.
