A PROPOSAL for an indoor swimming pool in Stonehaven is to be put forward at a public meeting on Monday in the Station Hotel.
The people behind the idea are Mrs Avril Aird, Mrs June Cargill, joint proprietor of the Station Hotel and her daughter Mrs Julie Mason.
They hope to enlist support and form a committee to raise money.
The ladies emphasise that this would have to
be a community venture and they have asked all the organisations in the town to send representatives to the meeting.
The two local district councillors, Mr Jack Emslie and Mrs Vi McDonald have expressed their support for the idea.
It is proposed that the new indoor pool would be built alongside the present Open Air Pool.
If the scheme gets off the ground the organisers would seek grants from the sports council, region and district.
The small indoor pool at Mackie Academy cannot cope with the present demand for swimming and the population of the town is constantly growing.

SEVEN days ago we did one of our now-and-again 'special' things, inasmuch as we literally held back the front page of this, Kincardine and Deeside's favourite weekly newspaper, in order to immediately appraise readers of district council decisions regarding the rates for the coming year, council house rents, etc.
We carried that information simultaneously with the provincial daily papers serving the area and but for snow blocking the road between Kinneff and Stonehaven, which prevented our delivery vehicle getting through, we would have beaten even the dailies to the punch.
Unfortunate, from our point of view, but – as they say – you can't win them all!
Anyway, we did advise that the rate was going to be held for a record-breaking sixth successive year at 8p in the £ – and that council house rents were to rise by an average of £1.06 per week.

AS a result of the narrow 2-1 win over Don United last week, Mackie Academy appear to have made promotion to Division Two a practically a certainty.
And as Balmoral Thistle crashed heavily, losing by six goals to two against Mutual Rovers, it gives the FPs a great chance of finishing up as League champions into the bargain.
With only four more games to play – two home and two away – the FPs need only to play to form to collect the maximum points from these fixtures.

IN Stonehaven last week, a coach was seen driving through the town with a well-known local minister inside and a policeman on the dickey.
Some of those who witnessed the incident wondered what was up and their feelings were only relieved when they were told that both the minister and the policeman were going to a social meeting in a country parish, so that the law and the church might have been said to have united to bring about peace.
