STONEHAVEN'S much-discussed and sought-after leisure/recreation centre, which it was proposed should be built on the site of the former cinema/bingo hall in Allardice Street, is right back to square one.
After considering yet more revised plans for the complex and hearing that overall costs were pushing on for the £800,000 mark, it was decided at Thursday's environmental/recreation committee meeting to set up a sub-committee to thoroughly re-examine
the situation and produce "new thinking".

Kincardine and Deeside Tourist Board will be known as just that, it was decided on a 7-4 vote and an emergency meeting of the five-month-old area body's executive committee in Stonehaven on Friday.
As reported in last week's Leader, the Scottish Office had advised the Queen against allowing the board to style itself 'Royal Deeside and Kincardine Tourist Board.'
Suggestions at Thursday's meeting of the full district council that the board might consider entitling itself 'LOYAL Deeside and Kincardine' or 'Kincardine and Loyal Deeside' cut no ice at the emergency conclave the next day.

ALTHOUGH there had been very few signs of pre-election activity in the town, Stonehaven voters turned out very well on polling day.
Sixty per cent of them went to the booths to get the elected candidates a real mandate.
Surprise result was the defeat of Mr Albert McArthur, Queen's Hotel.
Mr McArthur was one of the two retiring members forward and had five years Council experience behind him.
During that period he had proved himself one of the keenest and most energetic councillors, with a particular interest in housing.
For the past year he had been convener of the Housing Committee.
Early voters at the Town Hall were Mrs Doris Malcolm, Brickfield Road; Mr W. S. B. Anderson, Market Square and Mr Tom Walker, Macdonald Road.
First, as for several years past, at Dunnottar, was Miss Mona McDonald, 68 High Street.

DANIEL CHRISTIE, farm servant, Muchalls, was charged at the Sheriff Court yesterday before Sheriff Young – with reckless cycling on the public road near Cowie, on 26th April, to the danger of Margaret Harrow, shop girl, and knocked her to the ground. He pleaded guilty.
Mr Hamilton, Procurator Fiscal, said the accused had no bell on his machine, and he ran down the girl, who suffered from concussion of the brain for more than a week.
Accused said the girl ran in before the bicycle.
Sheriff Young said the consequences might have been very serious for accused, but the person who was injured had so far recovered.
Recklessness of that kind could not escape.
Probably, however, the accused got a fright himself and on that occasion he would only fine him 20/- or ten days imprisonment.
