MR Alick Buchanan-Smith, speaking in Portlethen on Tuesday evening, was able to give his audience the up-to-date position on two of the major issues concerning the community.
In response to questions Mr Buchanan-Smith said that Grampian Regional Council was to give formal approval in early June for the Portlethen Academy project to go out to tender.
Regarding the road junction Mr Buchanan-Smith said that the developer h
ad submitted plans of the junction to the district council and that these would be considered by the planning committee on June 23.
Mr Buchanan-Smith said he was delighted that the Academy was to go ahead, and that provided no detailed points of difficulty arose it should be possible for work to start on the road junction late this year.

THE Home Department have approved the immediate erection of a fire station at Laurencekirk at an estimated cost of £7,760.
This was revealed by Mr James F. V. Hunter, depute clerk to the North-Eastern Fire Area Joint Board at last Wednesday's meeting of the Board in Aberdeen.
It was, he pointed out, a complete reversal of an earlier decision by the department to delay their sanction of the building of the fire station this year.

A FATHER helped rescue two of his sons from the sea outside the North Pier of Stonehaven Harbour on Tuesday night by dashing into the surf up to his waist with a rope after they were flung into the sea. The young men's fibre glass rowing boat capsized in rough water near what is known as the Belmont rocks.
The father was Mr George Leiper, pleasure boat hirer, of Kilwhang, High Street, Stonehaven. This was Mr Leiper's second rescue in three days. On Sunday he went to the rescue in his motor boat of three Aberdeen members of the newly-formed Stonehaven Sailing Club whose dingy overturned in the outer harbour.
