DESPITE opposition to the move by local representative Councillor Jack Emslie, the district council's policy and resources committee are to write to Grampian region, expressing support for the introduction of yellow-line parking restrictions at certain specified street corners in and around town-centre Stonehaven.
Councillor Emslie maintained that to prevent cars parking near junctions would only serve to speed up traffic flow, and thus increase the danger to road-users.
Solution to the parking problem, he argued, would be the abolition of pay-and-display ch
arges on Market Square, which would encourage drivers to make use of the area.

Complaints are being received from the public that their lives, and those of their children, are being endangered by inconsiderate drivers, the district's environmental/recreation committee heard.
Now Grampian Region, who are responsible for the road, are to be asked to consider the provision of "sleeping policemen" at suitable intervals. A 10 m.p.h. limit has also been suggested.

THE annual picnic of the South United Free Church Choir took place last week to Glenbervie.
Leaving Stonehaven in two brakes the company drove to their destination, where an excellent repast, purveyed by Mr Alexander, of the Café, was done ample justice to.
A visit was paid to the beautiful gardens of Glenbervie House and other places of interest in the locality. Along with the company were Rev. Mr Michie and Mr A. B. Henderson, organist.
After an enjoyable day in perfect weather had been spent, the company returned to town highly delighted with their excursion.
