Mr Alick Buchanan-Smith was returned as the M.P. for the new constituency of Kincardine and Deeside at last Thursday's general election.
Mr Buchanan-Smith, MP for North Angus and Mearns for the last 19 years held off a strong challenge from the Liberal/Alliance candidate Mr Sandy Waugh in a four-way contest.

WITH an entry of more than 70 veteran and vintage vehicles for Sund
ay and more than 20 for tomorrow (Saturday), the Stonehaven-centred R.W. Thomson Memorial Fellowship are looking for good weather for their Rally Weekend to mark the 161st anniversary of the birth of Stonehaven's greatest son, Robert William Thomson, inventor of the pneumatic tyre in 1845.

Friday June 20 1958

MR and Mrs William Skinner, Bridge of Muchalls, woke up on Wednesday morning to find that a car had crashed through a large hedge and fallen six feet on to its roof into their carrot and onion patch.
Mr Skinner found no one inside the car or near it, and assumed that the occupant had got away without serious injury.
The driver, Mr Ian McDonald (22), Cameron Street, Stonehaven, was returning from Aberdeen early that morning when the accident occurred. His head smashed the windscreen, but he was not seriously injured.

100 YEARS AGO
Thursday June 18 1908

FROM our advertising columns it will be seen that the District Committee have asked the Sheriff to close Dunnottar Churchyard, owing to its overcrowded state, to all except those whose pre-deceasing spouses have already been buried therein.
Before granting the request, however, the Sheriff will sit in the Sheriff Court-house on Wednesday first the 24th inst., to hear objections if any are forthcoming.

Serious Accident – Alexander Robertson, an employee of the National Telephone Company at Bervie, was admitted into the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary last week suffering from severe injuries to his head, a telephone pole having fallen upon him.
He was medically attended to at Bervie, and was then conveyed to Aberdeen.

THIS (Thursday) afternoon at two o' clock the Minamax Coy. Ltd., are to give a demonstration in the Market Square of the capabilities of their fire-extinguishing fire apparatus.
The company's fire representative, Mr J.G. White has carried out similar demonstrations in Forfar, Brechin, Laurencekirk, and other towns, with great success and the manner in which the fire is extinguished will be watched with much interest.
