THIS year's Stonehaven Folk Festival is set to be the biggest and best line-up ever, with the announcement that folk legends Battlefield Band will be joining Eddi Reader and Barbara Dickson as headliners for the three-day event.
Battlefield Band will play in the Town Hall on Saturday July 12 and tickets are already almost sold out for the event. Festival organiser Trudi Clayton said: "Battlefield Band are an excellent band. The tickets are selling out radically fast. They ar
e a major band and we have hardly any tickets left."
She added: "Normally we have a few tickets left over for all the shows but this year Eddi Reader and Barbara Dickson have already sold out, and Battlefield Band are not close behind. Those three headliners make this year the biggest and best line-up the festival has ever had."
The band is currently on tour in Australia, and usually reserve the month of July as a rest period. But they have decided to give up their break to play in Stonehaven after an absence of four years.
Ewan MacGregor, who is a representative of the band's record company, Temple Records, said: "I know they said that they were looking forward to the Stonehaven festival; they spend so much time touring abroad (they've played in China, USA, Uzbekistan, Canada, Malaysia, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Holland and Spain in the last few years alone) that they really enjoy being able to come home and play some shows in Scotland."
With such a good line-up and the especially high demand for tickets, festival organisers told The Leader that they are taking care of last minute preparations for the event in on July 11, 12 and 13, and hoping for good weather.
