PREPARATIONS for Stonehaven's famous Fireballs celebration are now in swing.
The Stonehaven Fireballs Association has had its first meeting in the run up to Hogmanay '08/9. All the features for the Fireball Ceremony will take place as usual – the pipe band, the drumming group and the fire poi troupe.
The Stonehaven Hogmanay
Festival calendar '09 is now on sale in E. Giulianotti and Ma Simpsons' in Evan Street, Molly's on the beach promenade, Cullinaire, Hair Care and Jon hairdresser in Barclay Street, The Waterfront Café, Mearns Leader office, Bridgefield Books and the Shell Hoosie shop at the harbour.
It shows a new and different selection of 13 images of the Stonehaven area taken by local people.
Any members of the Association who are swingers and who want to take part in Fireball '09 should contact the Secretary, Susan Leiper, before the end of October to reserve their place. The Association hope to have the usual full quota of 45 swingers. Any spaces in the parade which are not taken up by the November 1 will be allocated to people who have marshalled for two years and who want to swing.
The DVD duo pack that the Stonehaven Fireball Association made has been selling very well but is still available for £15. It can be obtained from The Shell Hoosie at the harbour, E. Giulianotti in Evan Street, and Jon Hairdresser in Barclay Street. Sweat and 'T' shirts with the Fireball logo are also available at The Shell Hoosie.
The Association is hoping to share a stall at the Christmas Festival in the Town Hall.
The 2008/9 brochure 'Stonehaven's Hogmanay Festival '08/9' will be available soon.
As usual volunteers are always required for marshalling on New Year Eve. Organisers promise that is a great way to get a good view of the event and enjoy celebrating Hogmanay with a huge number of people, and a chance to get involved in a unique local event.
Any one wanting to help in any way can contact David Fleming on 767200, or Alan Venters on 766715 or visit www.stonehavenfireballs.co.uk for more information.
