STONEHAVEN skatepark committee chairperson Dr Janet Ralston has said that the group are "overjoyed" by the news that energy services company The Wood Group are donating £15,000 to their funds.
With the boost received last month when they received £2,000 from Stagecoach, work on the first phase of the project is expected to begin "as soon as possible".
Plans for the park, which will be built on a site across from Baird Park, were approved
last summer, and money has since been raised by grant applications, business sponsorship, individual donations and many fundraising events.
The latest contribution from Wood Group is a huge cash boost for the committee, and will allow new features to be added that will ensure more use of the facility.
Peter Nicholson of Wood Group said: "We believe this skatepark will be a great attraction for current and future generations in and around Stonehaven, and we fully support this worthwhile project."
Janet Ralston said: "Now that the old paddling pool has been removed we believe that it is more important than ever to provide a safe facility for the many youngsters in the town who enjoy skateboarding, roller blading and BMX biking."
"Plans must be finalised over the next few weeks and so we are making one final push to raise the maximum funding possible."
Skatepark supporters are making an appeal for support in the final stages of their long-running campaign, which has been ongoing for several years. A sponsorship pack is available to anyone who is interested in becoming involved.
"We appeal to any individual, group or business who feels that they could help us to make this project happen, either by donating money or material assistance to contact me on 07703462591 or janet.ralston@btopenworld.com." said Janet.
