A CHOIR from Gourdon Primary have won the Taylor Challenge Cup at the Aberdeen Music Festival.
25 pupils, ranging from primary three to primary seven, formed the winning group, who sang two songs – one from Disney film The Jungle Book, and one called 'Pop Idol' – to beat off stiff competition.
The Taylor Challenge Cup is for schools with les
s than 120 pupils, and Gourdon primary currently has 55.
Head teacher Sandra Japp said: "We have entered this competition for a number of years and we've always been pipped to the post. But this year we've done it."
"It's what we deserve after all these years, the children sang beautifully. I am proud of them all of the time but I am especially proud of their achievement."
Mrs Japp told the Leader that much of the success of the choir should be credited to Pamela Hossick and Pamela Japp, who tutor the pupils.
Due to their achivement, the Gourdon Primary choir have been invited to perform next week at Meldrum Academy as part of the Aberdeenshire Music Showcase, which displays the best talent from around Aberdeenshire.
Mr Japp described the invitation to perform as a "great honour". She said: "The kids are all really excited to have been asked. The whole thing is such an achievement the school is just buzzing."
