THE Rotary Club of Portlethen and District has lost probably its staunchest supporter with the passing of Nick Mulligan, a Paul Harris Fellow.
Nick was a founder member and past president of the club and had since its inception been one of its most industrious and committed supporters. Nick was a great believer not only in the humanitarian aspects of Rotary but an equally staunch believer i
n fellowship. He was for many years the Club's sports convener but it was his knowledge of Rotary, structure and policies that made him first port of call for queries and advice sought by other members.
Apart from his dedication and commitment to the club itself he was for several years District R.Y.L.A. (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Officer. During his tenure every facet pertinent to R.Y.L.A. was managed to perfection. Always clear, concise and compelling in his communications to clubs thus ensuring that they could deliver of their best. He also gave of his time freely in support of various activities especially at Nethybridge Outdoor Centre near Aviemore, participating in the youth interviews. His interest in advancing young people was instrumental in organising and delivering the Primary School Quiz for the club's catchment area
In 2001 he led the District 1010 Group Study Exchange to Arkansas and his organisational skills and attention to detail ensured that everyone enjoyed a rewarding if exhausting experience.
Nick was a stalwart of the local community in Newtonhill where he lived with his wife Margaret he was engaged in numerous community activities sometimes with a Rotary hat on and sometimes simply being a decent citizen. Nick was also the current President of Stonehaven Probus Club. Rotary Club President Alistair McNair and club members will join with his many other friends in extending their sincere condolences to his wife Margaret and his family.
Nick Mulligan was a Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow who epitomised the Rotary motto "Service above Self".

NICK MULLIGAN - will be sadly missed.
