ATHLETICS - LOCAL ATHLETES' MEDAL HAUL

BANCHORY Stonehaven Athletic Club had a healthy representation of young athletes at the Scottish National Age Group Championships at Grangemouth Stadium on August 23 and 24.
A total of three medals, two club records, three club standards and five personal bests were achieved in a range of events.
The under 17 girls high jump saw BSAC win a gold and a silver medal.
Ellie Workman who once again has had a very successfu
l year won the gold with a jump of 1.65m, and teammate Caroline Rodger in only her second season competing in athletics won the silver medal with a jump of 1.51m. making it a great one two for BSAC.
Ellie went on to complete a great double gold when she won the Javelin with a throw of 33.03m, a new PB, a club standard and also smashing the previous club record. The talented youngster also came fourth in the 80m hurdles with a time of 12.60.
Kathryn Christie, another young athlete who has had great success this year, just missed out on a medal in the under 15 girls 100m. In the qualifying heat Kathryn came first in a time of 12.65, a new PB, a club standard and a new club record that had previously stood since 1995.In the final Kathryn just missed out on a bronze finishing in a time of 12.8. In the 200m Kathryn again qualified for the final in a time of 26.5 but unfortunately had to withdraw from the final due to a hamstring injury.
Kelsey Stewart from Stonehaven in the under 13 girls also performed well when she obtained a new PB and club standard in the 800m with a time of 2.43. Kelsey also competed in the long jump, her best jump being 3.60m.
In the boys events pride of place goes to Daniel Rees in the under 13 boys 75m hurdles. Daniel raced into 3rd place to win a bronze medal in a time of 14.67. Daniel also went on to obtain a new PB in the 800m with a time of 2.38.63.
Daniel's brother Benjamin competed in the under 15 boys high jump and came in a commendable 6th place with a jump of 1.56m
Also in the under 15 boys 800m Michael Ferguson recorded a time of 2.22.12, and fellow Stonehaven club member Stewart Clark in the under 17 age group recorded a time of 2.08.01 also in the 800m.. Stewart then went on to get a new PB in the 400m with a time of 55.46.
Sean Leith in the under 13 boys 800m came 5th in his heat which qualified him for the B final and Sean went on to finish in 6th place in a time of 2.31.16.
These events are great experience for all competitors and it can only help improve the future success for the bsac athletes starting with the Petrofac Final at Inverness this weekend.
