AN unusual outing was held at Stonehaven Golf Club last week – with the golfers wearing clothes from a bygone era and playing with hickory-shafted clubs.
Unfortunately for the members of the British Golf Collectors' Society, the wind blew fiercely all day with some heavy rain sweeping in towards the end of their round.
The party came to Stonehaven on their way back home to Inverness after taking par
t in the annual Scotland v England hickory match, which they won convincingly at Dunstanburgh GC, Northumberland.
Organiser Hamish Ewan said his group thoroughly enjoyed playing Stonehaven, despite the weather conditions, and he described the staff in the clubhouse as "superb".
In their competition, Bob Redpath won first prize of the Thorntree Clique with 28 Stableford points.
Mr Ewan said: "After play we enjoyed a wee dram in the clubhouse and were served a magnificent high tea by the staff."
The society was founded in 1987 with the aim of promoting interest in the history and traditions of golf, and collecting items associated with that history. Current membership is around 600 has in all regions of Great Britain and abroad, particularly in Europe and the United States.

A small field of 16 players contested the Innes Medal Final on Saturday in difficult conditions of rain and blustery wind.
The result was a tie between Eric Innes and Gordon Adamson, who both returned net 66s, and under the competition rules, they will now have to arrange an 18-hole strokeplay play-off.
The scratch competition for the Captain's Cup, run in tandem, was won by Gordon Adamson with a 69, two shots better than scratch-man Neil Irvine.
Innes Medal Final: (CSS67) 66 Eric Innes (11), Gordon Adamson (3) (play-off to be arranged); 68 Brian Hunter (6); 69 Bob Smith (12), Neil Robertson (4); 71 Alistar Barnet (14), Harry Roulston (5), Neil Irvine (0); 73 Jim Hepburn (12); 74 Ron Ballantyne (18); 75 John Lawson (17); 78 Donald MacFarlane (21); 82 Martin McCoy (14); 83 John Moderate (20); NR Alan Wood, Adam Smith.
Captain's Cup (scratch): Winner, Gordon Adamson 69.
