Mackie S1's (22) v (11) Ellon S1's

MACKIE S1's played away at Ellon on Sunday and with an 11am kick off on a warm sunny morning, they started the game slowly and were soon two trys down.
The S1's seemed to find it hard to get into any sort of rhythm with their passing and movement around the pitch.
Mackie started slowly in the breakdown, struggling to compete in the rucks and maintaining their defensive line.
After the second Ell
on try and subsequent conversion Mackie seemed to wake from their slumber as they quickly put together a passage of good supportive play that included a number of good offloads and strong running through the backs.
This sudden change in Mackie's attitude and belief quickly led to 4 trys all scored through good passing, effective and clear communication aligned to good support play.
One Mackie try was converted and after the first period of the game Mackie had taken the score to 13-11 in their favour.
As the next 30 minutes evolved Mackie started to really come into their own, the entire team rose to the task.
The forwards made some incisive runs crossing the Ellon gain line regularly, which enabled a good fast ball to be supplied to the now confident Mackie backs who scored a further 3 try's. The best of which started from the effective Mackie Scrum , the ball went through the backs hands, quickly out to the wing, and a with a little pass inside, the Mackie Scrum half ran over to score a well deserved try.
What was most pleasing about the Mackie performance was their desire to play open running rugby and the level of their new found aggression.
Ellon had tried to upset the Mackie rhythm but the Mackie boys continued to play rugby and fought well. Mackie consistently won all the contact areas such as the rucks, scrum and their tackling in open play.
The final analysis showed that out of a 60 minute game Mackie had dominated both possession and territory spending the majority of the game camped in the Ellon half of the pitch, comfortably winning the game 22-11.
It would be wrong to pick out any one player, as the entire team pulled together and worked hard for each other throughout.
There is still a long season to go but if the boys continue to improve at the rate they are doing then the season can only get better.
