Conditions couldn't have been much worse with heavy rain and high winds to contend with. Cowie started brightly and soon had the home keeper under pressure with Cahill narrowly missing the target; more was to follow in a first half which Cowie domina
ted.
Cahill had a second chance but couldn't connect cleanly as the ball went over the bar. Good play down the right from Fraser allowed him to drive into the box and set up Leith whose shot was blocked and scrambled cleared for a corner. Fowler took the corner kick and picked out Watson who rose above the defence to get a header on target that was well saved by the keeper. Hart tried his luck from long range but his shot went over the bar. Watson was played through by Cahill but slipped as he shot and the ball went straight into the arms of the home keeper. Beacon's first real chance of the game came towards the end of the half, a corner was flicked on at the near post and somehow their striker managed to dig the ball high and wide from right on the goal line. With the half ending goalless this was a good reminder to Cowie that despite their dominance they needed to score.
Hudson replaced Odie at half time as Cowie shuffled things around and the deadlock was eventually broken 10 minutes into the second half. Watson's stinging drive from 20 yards was blocked by the keeper with Leith reacting quickest to the rebound burying the ball high into the net. Watson should have added a second but failed to make contact with the ball from 12 yards out. Masson replaced Leith up front shortly afterwards as the veteran striker became the victim of some heavy challenges.
Cowie went two up through Hudson, picking the ball up on the halfway line he drove at the Beacon defence who backed off too deeply allowing his well directed shot from 25 yards out to nestle in the bottom corner. Fowler should have sealed an outstanding all round personal performance with a goal but his first time effort went high and wide leaving the winger cursing the pitch.
Cursiter came on for Fraser with 15 minutes remaining and his first involvement saw him fire the ball across the 6 yard box which was just missed by the onrushing Masson sliding in.
As the game played out Cowie had further chances through Watson, Cursiter and Masson but there were to be no more goals.
This was a fine performance by Cowie under very difficult conditions against a team fighting desperately to maintain their Premier League status.
Next week's fixture is another league match at home against Aberdeen University.
